This case study outlines a public–private partnership approach to managing floods in the Lower Incomati Basin that has delivered economic benefits and reduced the vulnerability of poor communities in Mozambique. It describes the challenges facing sugar companies, contract farmers and rural communities and explains how a collaborative approach is providing solutions. The report explains how CRIDF has used flood risk modelling, early warning flood forecasting systems and cost–benefit analysis of infrastructure options to work with stakeholders on increasing resilience to flooding in ways that are cost-effective and beneficial to more than 250,000 people in Mozambique.
