Assessment of transboundary river basins for potential hydropolitical tensions

This peer-reviewed paper uses a systematic, global assessment of transboundary watersheds to identify regions where hydropolitical tensions are most likely to occur over the next decade and beyond. Physical, institutional, political and economic indicators are used in this assessment. Several basins in Southeast Asia, South Asia, Central America, the northern part of the South American continent, the southern Balkans, as well as in different parts of Africa, are identified as being vulnerable.
