Case study on flood forecasting systems in the Limpopo River Basin
This case study outlines how Botswana, Mozambique, South Africa and Zimbabwe – all riparian states of the Limpopo River Basin – are sharing water data in order to predict flood flows and issue early warnings to more than 1.5 million people. The report describes the challenges facing low-income communities and the economic activities of agriculture, forestry, mining and tourism and explains how CRIDF is working with the Limpopo River Commission Flood Task Team and agricultural companies in Mozambique to provide solutions: designing an early warning system, installing new gauges, analysing costs and benefits and developing a business case for future investment.
